With your support we can give working animals and the people who depend on them a better future.

Some people think of SPANA as an animal charity that helps people. Others think we are a people charity that helps animals.

SPANA's CEO Jeremy Hulme and other staff members write from the front lines of our work, taking in everything from the Chelsea Flower show to the drought in Chad.

Student fundraising

Organising fundraising activities is a great way to bulk up your CV whilst also doing something fantastic for a really worthwhile cause, and having fun too!

The options really are endless, you could host any kind of event and then ask for donations in return for entry, and don’t forget to include the obligatory raffle!

To give you a starting point here are some tried and tested ideas:
  • Host your own X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing or Britain’s Got Talent! Get people to dress up and act like the real shows’ judges.
  • Speed dating – give each couple 3 minutes to get to know each other.
  • "Slave" auction – get people to donate their time to the cause and then auction them off to the highest bidder.
  • Fancy dress party – everyone knows students love to dress up! Try to come up with a new theme or use one of the classics – School days, Hawaii, 70’s/80’s, Emergency Services, Halloween etc.
  • Fashion Show – does the fashion department at your uni host an annual fashion show? Suggest this year, then go on show for SPANA!
  • Sporting tournament – it could be football, rugby, netball, rounders, basketball, mini golf, tennis, table tennis, badminton etc. Or maybe something fun like an obstacle course, or something extra tough like an assault course.
  • Take to the streets! Contact SPANA for a collection tin and then get out and about on campus and collect your fellow students’ spare change. Get even more attention for yourself by wearing fancy dress or doing something crazy like shaving your head, or waxing your legs. (Please note: you must have permission to collect in public places.)
  • Take part in an upcoming event.
