With your support we can give working animals and the people who depend on them a better future.

Some people think of SPANA as an animal charity that helps people. Others think we are a people charity that helps animals.

SPANA's CEO Jeremy Hulme and other staff members write from the front lines of our work, taking in everything from the Chelsea Flower show to the drought in Chad.

Other ways to help

eBay for Charity

When selling items on eBay you can donate part of your earnings to SPANA.

Often supporters offer to donate us their goods to sell but we cannot do so due to difficulties with administration and storage, so selling your items via eBay is the perfect alternative.

Visit www.ebay.co.uk/ebayforcharity for more information.

Search online using ClickNow

The SPANA ClickNow websearch works in exactly the same way as any other search engine. The only difference is that every time you do your normal search, SPANA receives a donation from ClickNow.

So the more you search, the more money SPANA receives — at no cost to you and no cost to SPANA!

When you search using the SPANA ClickNow search page, you get results from all the leading search engines.

Remember to bookmark the link to the search engine or make it your homepage to ensure that every search you do helps your favourite charity!

Fact: An average person will search the Internet 3–4 times a day. This could equate to £50–£60 being raised per person per year for SPANA!

Visit www.clicknow.org.uk/Spana and start searching now.

Buy exclusive Ivor the Engine stamps
image of Ivor the Engine and Bluebell the donkey

Everyone’s favourite little green train from the “top left hand corner of Wales” turns 50 this year!

To celebrate his birthday SPANA has teamed up with leading stamp collectors specialists Buckingham Covers to produce a charming and highly-collectable limited edition sheet of Royal Mail stamps.

This is not the first time working animals cross paths with Ivor. Bluebell the donkey was a valuable character in the series. Like all donkeys Bluebell was gentle and hard-working.

The stamps come together with wonderful artwork of the series from creator Peter Firmin.

Only 1959 sheets will be in existence worldwide and at least £2.00 from every sale go directly to SPANA.

Peter, a loyal supporter of SPANA, is personally signing a limited number of the sheets to help raise even more funds.

They are an absolute must-have for anyone who loves Ivor and will make a great addition to any collection of TV memorabilia.

For more information and to order please visit Buckingham Covers’ site.

Donate your stamps

Please cut the stamps from the envelope and leave ¼ inch around the stamp to make them easier to process. Please do not tear around the stamps as this damages them and makes them worthless to sell on.

Please send all stamps to:

If you would like to know they have arrived safely, please request this when sending the stamps. Please check the packet size and weight before you send any packages as any that arrive underpaid will have to be paid for by SPANA funds.

Make nosebands
image of donkey with noseband

In some of the countries where SPANA works, horses, mules and donkeys often have wounds from ill fitting harnessing on the head.

Although a long term goal is to replace all tack with leather harnessing, in the short-term SPANA supporters can help by making noseband covers to go around chains and other harsh material.

Being able to cover these nose pieces with soft material is hugely beneficial to the welfare of these animals. We constantly need them as they do wear out, so if you are interested in making some more please follow these instructions:

Use Washable nylon fur fabric (preferred) and cut to 11” x 4” size. Attach one strip of Velcro to the inside length and another strip to the outside of the fabric (This is better stitched than glued as the glue deteriorates quickly in the heat). That’s it!

The noseband can be attached to the bridle by rolling it around the existing noseband and securing it with the Velcro.

Please send all nosebands to our veterinary director, Karen Reed:
