With your support we can give working animals and the people who depend on them a better future.

Some people think of SPANA as an animal charity that helps people. Others think we are a people charity that helps animals.

SPANA's CEO Jeremy Hulme and other staff members write from the front lines of our work, taking in everything from the Chelsea Flower show to the drought in Chad.

The working animals of Marrakech provide a vital lifeline to the communities that depend on them. But through extreme poverty and years of misconceptions, animals are often over-worked and mistreated.

The treatment provided at our stables is free and helps over 8,000 working animals recover from injuries and sickness every year. And each time a patient leaves our stables, there is another animal waiting to take its place.

So, your support would help lots of animals recover and regain their strength.

The clinic also has an education centre that teaches the next generation of owners to care for and respect animals. This has become so popular that we now have classes visiting every day. This way we can prevent animal suffering in the future.

Receive regular updates

When you sponsor our stables you will receive information-packed updates twice a year. They show how you are helping animals, including photographs and details of the treatment they receive.

Lucky escape
image of donkey's injured legs

When Karim’s donkey was hit by a car, badly wounding his legs, he and his family immediately came to SPANA’s clinic in Marrakech. Karim had visited the education centre with his class earlier that year and knew that we could help.

We stitched and bandaged the injuries to prevent any infection and gave a course of anti-inflammatory drugs. The donkey stayed with us for ten days where he was given lots of food to build up his strength before he was reunited with a delighted Karim.
