"I cannot express how fulfilling being a volunteer is — knowing that I am making a difference no matter how small rather than just offering arm-chair support and being apathetic leaves me speechless and helping a charity as well deserved as SPANA is a great bonus. I am confident in their abilities, their faith and full assistance in their volunteers and the work they have done-to-date is tremendous — SPANA make a difference and I cannot express what you will achieve and the gratification you will gain by becoming a volunteer for them."
Mel Leighton, SPANA volunteer

At SPANA we are extremely fortunate to have so many wonderfully dedicated supporters — they raised a magnificent £27,000 for us during 2006 — and we love receiving their letters and telephone calls telling us about their diverse fundraising activities and how much they enjoy being able to contribute to the welfare of working animals around the world.

These funds are tremendously important to our work, but equally important is the fact that every time a fundraising event is organised, SPANA and its work is brought to the attention of even more people — amongst whom will be other animal lovers who might also want to support us.

SPANA volunteers don’t have to make a regular time commitment — we ask for only as much as you are able to give — and there are so many ways in which you can make a difference to the lives of suffering animals.

There are weekly cooking sessions with friends in return for a small donation or sales of home-made cakes and biscuits at local fairs. Coffee mornings are always popular, as are garage sales of books, home-made cards or unwanted gifts — and many people enjoy participating in a sponsored walk, run, swim or ride to keep fit. Even if you haven’t the time for any of these activities, simply placing leaflets or collection boxes in your workplace, veterinary clinic or local shop can be immensely helpful. Young volunteers can run a stall at their school fair, arrange a talent contest, arrange to have a dress-down day or organise a face-painting event.

If you think you might be able to help SPANA in some way, please contact Sarah Robinson, Fundraising & Supporter Care Co-ordinator on 020 7269 2696 or email to sarah@spana.org

SPANA volunteers make a big difference — not only do they have fun but they know that the result of their efforts means more animals are being treated
