Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is a country in chaos, but we are able to help through our emergency initiatives.
In 1999, when the eviction of white farmers left thousands of farm animals abandoned, we were able to save them from starvation by supplying food and medicines.
Today, Zimbabwe is in crisis again and we are currently asking for funds to help the many animals suffering under the extreme poverty.
With a 92% unemployment rate and sky-high petrol prices, a working animal is the only means of transport and to carry goods to market. But owners often need to build harnesses from scrap metal and use carts too big for donkeys. This means their bodies are covered in wounds.
With only a very few vets in the country and no basic medicines available, these animals have no chance of being treated.
We want to supply medicines, new harness and padding. SPANA also plans to train locals to work as animal technicians and fund regular clinics.
