With your support we can give working animals and the people who depend on them a better future.

Some people think of SPANA as an animal charity that helps people. Others think we are a people charity that helps animals.

SPANA's CEO Jeremy Hulme and other staff members write from the front lines of our work, taking in everything from the Chelsea Flower show to the drought in Chad.

Syria

The veterinary centre is situated in the Syrian Veterinary School of Al-Baath University and we have several of the University's veterinary graduates working for us.

Our three mobile clinics travel up to 300km every day to treat sick and injured animals. Syria and Jordan are the only countries where SPANA doesn't visit souks (markets) but treats animals on farms. That's why our mobile vets have to travel such great distances.

In Tartous, SPANA was given the use of an old school by the Ministry of Education. We have converted this disused building into a fully functioning training facility. Our 'teaching the teachers' projects help spread respect for animals throughout the country.

Emergency

In 2002, the dam in Zayzoun burst destroying over 250 houses and killing thousands of sheep and cattle. Our emergency aid helped to save the lives of hundreds more sick and injured working animals.
