SPANA: Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad

Jordan

Via its 4 mobile clinics and 2 vet centres, SPANA treated thousands of animals in Jordan in 2006. Although treatment is vital for these sick animals, so is the education of owners and children if we are to have a future free from poor animal care.

SPANA's educational centre in Amman gives urban children the chance to interact with all manner of animals including horses, donkeys, rabbits and chickens. It's a great way to encourage affection and respect for animals and develop a better understanding of their needs.

One of our recent initiatives is to hold a veterinary open day, in a different district of Jordan, each year. These involve SPANA vets and teaching staff getting together with owners and animal club members to provide free treatment and talks on basic healthcare. This is just one of the ways SPANA is changing attitudes towards working animals.

At our education centre in Amman children are taught how to care for and respect animals.
