Ethiopia
SPANA’s two mobile clinics support the busy veterinary clinic in Debre Zeit. Scarred by food crisis, civil war and horrendous poverty, Ethiopia’s 2.75 million horses and many donkeys are often sick, injured and overworked.
The taxi horses, for example, have a backbreaking job and are often exhausted. Having gained trust from the drivers, the SPANA staff is able to show them how good care benefits not only their animals but also their livelihoods. Our cart owners' workshop in Debre Berhan also gives owners the chance to exchange information on all aspects of horse care.
Our three classrooms located in three different towns means a large number of children are now taught about animal welfare.
