Chad
The conflict in Sudan has forced more than 400,000 people to flee their homes into neighbouring Chad. Many have lost everything and are now struggling to survive in overcrowded refugee camps. Their only hope for the future lies with their animals.
When we arrived in the camps in the dry season in 2007, almost a third of the animals in one region had already died.

Thanks to the quick response of our supporters we were able to build water-collection basins, which now provide life-saving water for animals and families and open up grazing land.
Another benefit of this project has been a reduction in tensions between the refugees from Darfur and the local Chadian villagers. See our work in photos on Flickr
