We fund a wide range of projects that involve much more than just treating animals. In Ghana, for example, we've paid for vets to care for sick working animals and teach their owners the basics of proper animal husbandry. Whilst in Kenya, we've helped fund local radio programmes so we can spread animal welfare messages to the wider population.
Drought can make life incredibly difficult for working animals. They are needed to toil every day, with or without water, or families will starve. In Turkana, Kenya, SPANA funded the construction of rock catchment dams, so that over 280,000 labouring animals and cattle now have drinking water all year round.
Stray animals often have a really hard life. To improve their well being, we have supported sterilisation schemes in, for example, the tourist areas of Gambia and the busy streets of Taiwan.
With extra help, we hope to extend our reach by funding more of these indispensable welfare projects.
