With your support we can give working animals and the people who depend on them a better future.

Some people think of SPANA as an animal charity that helps people. Others think we are a people charity that helps animals.

SPANA's CEO Jeremy Hulme and other staff members write from the front lines of our work, taking in everything from the Chelsea Flower show to the drought in Chad.

About us

We’re happy to have it both ways. Without SPANA, people would be worse off and animals would be in pain and misery. Because of what we do, there are more happy, healthy animals, working hard and earning an income for their owners. This in turn puts food on the table and can pay for their children to go to school.

More about us:

What we do

SPANA is a UK charity saving animals in the poorest countries in the world. But we are not an ordinary animal charity - we know that working animals ensure that families can make a living.

History of SPANA

SPANA was founded in 1923 by Kate Hosali and her daughter Nina, after they witnessed the mistreatment of animals on their travels through North Africa. Read more about their incredible drive to help working animals.
