*Alice completed the 60 marathons in 60 days challenge in November 2015. Here's the post that Alice wrote to explain why she undertook such a gargantuan task:
Hello, my name is Alice Burch and from 1st October 2015 onwards I am going to attempt to run a world record breaking 60 marathons in 60 consecutive days on behalf of SPANA.
My efforts to beat the current world record will see me running for 60 days straight with at least 2 other people running alongside me or watching from the sides. I hope to get an events team together, made up of various sports people who are helping with the challenge. If you'd like to get involved as part of this team, or to run alongside, or just come along and watch, please email me now.
This may seem like an extremely ambitious task, but it's also going to be epic but I'm passionate to get started because I love running and truly believe in the work that SPANA is trying to do.
I first became aware of SPANA when a very close friend was killed suddenly in January 2014. His wonderful mum requested that the monies collected was donated to this charity.
Attempting a world record has been on my to-do list for a long time, and I couldn't think of a better challenge to take on than this one, espcially if it allows me to raise money and much needed awareness of working animals, and the care they vitally need.
I am aiming high with my fundraising target and so need as many people as possible to dig deep, donate, and make a difference (even 50p helps!). Don't forget to tell your friends and family about this challenge as well, you can share on Facebook, send a tweet now, or email friends!
Remember, if you would like to get involved in my event, please do email me. The more support the better. The marathons will be held at The Outdoor Sports Centre, Thornhill Road, Bassett, Southampton, SO16 7AY. You can run 1 mile or 26.2 miles or even come and watch - I might be crawling by the end.
